A Message from Major Williams​

​

Hello, my name is Michael Williams. I am Sheriff Jackie Rogers' new Major of Operations for the W.E. "Billy" Smith Detention Center.

​

I enter this position with over 20 years of law enforcement experience, dating back to 2004 with the Kinston Police Department.

​

As the new Jail Administrator, we will continue to focus on the safety and security of all who enter this facility.

​

I hope to reinforce and grow the

team-oriented atmosphere within the

facility.

​​​

I believe training officers in all aspects of

their responsibilities, both within and

beyond their job responsibilities,

reiterates the importance of who they are

as Detention Officers. The more 

knowledgeable one is, the more likely they

are to step forward and grow within

themselves and their career. 

​

I also feel that an employee who is well-educated in their career field feels more valued and creates a more positive work environment. I, along with the supervisors within this facility, have a duty to mentor stron, knowlegeable leaders who will one day take our place.

Some say leaders are born to, which there is some truth. However, I believe others are mentored and made to realize they can do so.
