Description of Work

The Deputy Sheriff performs professional law enforcement duties within Lenoir County. Responsibilities include enforcing state and local laws, serving civil process and warrants, responding to calls for service, and performing other law enforcement duties as assigned.

Deputies are expected to remain alert, tactful and firm while performing their duties in accordance with the policies, procedures, instructions and directives of the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office. Deputies serve as members of an assigned shift and report to higher-ranking supervisors. Work is performed under the direct and general supervision of supervisory personnel and in accordance with established standard operating procedures. 



Work Environment 

Law enforcement work involves exposure to the ususal hazards associated with the profession, including potentially dangerous individuals, loud noises, and both indoor and outdoor working environments. Deputies may work in extreme hot or cold weather conditions and may be exposed to human blood or bodily fluids. This position is subject to OSHA requirements regarding bloodborne pathogens. 



Certification Requirements

BLET certification is preferred but not required.

Applicants who are not currently BLET-certified may be hired as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee and attend Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) when the next scheduled class begins.
