Applications are accepted at the beginning of each scheduled Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) course.

Description of Work

Deputy Trainees attend BLET at a community college as assigned and work toward certification as a Deputy Sheriff in accordance with the training requirements and standards established by the North Carolin Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

While enrolled in BLET, Deputy Trainees must successfully complete the required educational classwork and rigorous physical training. Trainees are expected to remain alert, tactful, and firm while performing their duties in accordance with the policies, procedures, instructions, and directives of the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement work involves exposure to the usual hazards associated with the profession, including potentially dangerous individuals, loud noises, and both indoor and outdoor working environments. Employees may work in extreme hot or cold weather conditions and may be exposed to human blood or bodily fluids. This position is subject to OSHA requirements regarding bloodborne pathogens

 
After BLET Graduation

Upon successful completion of BLET, the Deputy Trainee will be promoted to Deputy Sheriff I and will complete the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office Field Training Program.

Employment Requirements

Deputy Trainees are required to complete and agree to a two-year employment contract.
