Description of Work  

All Deputies perform professional law enforcement duties within Lenoir County. Responsibilities include enforcing state and local laws, serving civil process and warrants, responding to calls for service and performing other law enforcement duties as assigned.

Deputies are expected to remain alert, tactful, and firm while performing their duties in accordance with the policies, procedures, instructions, and directives of the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office. Deputies report to higher-ranking supervisors. Work is performed under direct and general supervision of supervisory personnel and in accordance with established standard operating procedures. 

The Deputy Sheriff assigned as a School Resource Officer (SRO) is responsible for providing law enforcement and security services within an assigned middle or high school in Lenoir County. The SRO works to promote a safe learning environment while building positive relationships between law enforcement, students, school staff, and the community.

In addition to their SRO responsibilities, they perform the duties and responsibilities of a Deputy Sheriff as assigned. 



Work Environment 

Law enforcement work involves exposure to the usual hazards associated with the profession, including potentially dangerous individuals, loud noises, and both indoor and outdoor working environments. Deputies may work in extreme hot or cold weather conditions and may be exposed to human blood or bodily fluids. This position is subject to OSHA requirements regarding bloodborne pathogens.



Certification Requirements

BLET certification is required for SRO positions for applicants with one year of experience.

SROs are required to complete all state-mandated School Resource Officer certification and training.
 
Applicants who are not currently BLET-certified may be hired as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee and attent Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) when the next scheduled class begins.
