DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Deputy Sheriff assigned as School Resource Officer (SRO) is required to complete state mandated School Resource Officer certification and training. The SRO will be assigned to a middle or high school in Lenoir County to provide security, facitiate a relationship between law enforcement and students and act as a liaison between the schools and law enforcement along with additional duties of a deputy sheriff. In general, all Deputies are required to perform professional work in county jurisdiction to include enforcement of laws, service of civil process, service of warrants and other law enforcement functions. Employee is expected to be alert, tact and firm while performing work in accordance with specific instructions, policies and directions set forth by office.
Work is performed under direct and general supervision of higher ranking personnel and standard operating procedures. Employees are subject to usual hazards associated with law enforcement including exposure to various hazards such as dangerous persons, loud noises, inside and outside work environment, hot and cold weather. Work may expose the employee to human blood or body fluids and thus the job is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens.
SRO's are provided with take home vehicles, computer and cell phone. All equipment and uniforms are provided at no cost.
BLET Certification is required for SRO positions with one year experience. Applicants who are not certified can be hired as Deputy Sheriff Trainee to attend BLET in either January or August.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Citizen of the United States
21 years of age
Possess a NC Driver's License
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Must be of Good Moral Character
Responsible Financial History
Pass a Drug Screen, Medical Exam and Psychological Test
Pass the Computerized Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA)
Have not been convicted or committed any crimes as specified
in 12 NCAC 09B.0111.
