DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Students accepted as interns will observe deputies and detention officers as they perform their normal duties. Interns will follow assignment given by the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office Internship Coordinator that will place them in all the Divisions of the Sheriff's Office including Patrol Division, Investigations Division, Support Services Division and Detention Division.
Interns are permitted to observe incidents and scenes once they are deemed safe by the deputy or detention officer. Work is performed under direct and general supervision of personnel and standard operating procedures. Interns are subject to usual hazards associated with law enforcement including exposure to various hazards such as dangerous persons, loud noises, inside and outside work environment, hot and cold weather. Work may expose the employee to human blood or body fluids and thus the job is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens.
